The O’Mallery family heads to the park for a barbecue, but the cookout is really a cover for an intervention. They are staging one last attempt to get their sister to face her addiction, and it does not go the way anyone plans. As the afternoon unravels, stories get entangled between two parallel O’Mallery families, one Black and one White. The play flips what we think we know about the so-called “typical” American family. BARBECUE is sharp, loud, and very funny, poking at race, class, and the messy ways we decide who belongs at the table.
