Midland Center for the Arts Seeks Local Actors for Regional Premiere of The Sparrow

Center Stage Theatre Assembling Movement-Focused Ensemble for New Play, Auditions March 2

Center Stage Theatre is rounding out its 2022-23 season with the Regional Premiere of The Sparrow written by Chris Mathews, Jake Minton and Nathan Allen at Midland Center for the Arts on June 1 - 4. The Midland production will be directed and choreographed locally by Emily Anderson, Gina Kearly and Travis Kendrick.

The Center is seeking actors ages 16 and up to fill the roles in this contemporary stage play that features plenty of stage magic from a high-powered ensemble. Auditions will take place Thursday, March 2 from 6 – 9 P.M., in the Founders Room at the Center for the Arts. “The Sparrow is unique in that it relies on a talented ensemble to create the world on stage,” said Travis Kendrick, Manager of Produced Theatre and Theatre Education at Midland Center for the Arts. “we’re looking for dedicated, imaginative actors to bring this compelling story to life!”

The Sparrow is the story of misfit superhero Emily Book, a teenage orphan who returns to her Illinois hometown a decade after a tragic accident tore apart the community. Rumors of her mysterious powers prevent Emily from having a normal high school experience, but her telekinesis may be what the town needs to heal. The play features a dynamic ensemble and unique movement that taps into the fundamental aching of adolescence—fearing that we're somehow different while hoping that we're somehow special.

The production will run for four performances in the Little Theater at Midland Center for the Arts on Thursday, June 1 - 4. All participants in the production will be required to be fully vaccinated. Rehearsals begin Monday, March 13, and will occur three to four times per week leading up to performances.
