Welcome, School Groups!

Even though we can’t experience the magic of attending a live performance together, the Midland Center for the Arts will be bringing a live interaction with artists right to you and your students -virtually!

We’re partnering with Shakespeare in Jazz to bring music and learning to your classrooms this fall. This matinee workshop is appropriate for all grade levels but is recommended as a best fit for 4th-8th grade students. The 50 minute program will be a workshop format, with the artist alternating performing selected songs and directly interacting with students.

  • October 20 / 10 AM & 1 PM
  • October 21 / 10 AM
  • $25 per classroom
  • Curriculum Connections: Music, Language Arts, History

We’re excited to announce that the cost of virtual programs will be partially underwritten thanks to the generous support of Soaring Eagle Waterpark through the Art from the Heart Scholarship Fund, making these programs more affordable for all to enjoy.

Registration Information:

  • Registration deadline: October 15
    Payment deadline: November 4
  • Once a class is registered via the form below, a confirmation email and invoice will be emailed to the registering teacher
  • Individual classes of any size, whether in-classroom, virtual, or a hybrid model can register and participate

Shakespeare in Jazz

October 20 / 10 AM & 1 PM
October 21 / 10 AM
Recommended for 4th-8th grades; appropriate for all grade levels

Shakespeare in Jazz: All the World’s a Song is an engaging, participatory celebration of Shakespeare's work, offering an exciting new way to experience the his genius.  Great for those discovering his plays for the first time and for Shakespeare aficionados alike! Throughout the concert, audience members will join Daniel's jazz group, featuring an amazing jazz vocalist, as they sing along to catchy, original songs based on Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night, Macbeth, Hamlet and many more! Shakespeare in Jazz features the tremendous talents of jazz vocalist Frederick Johnson. Johnson has performed on stage with such musical greats as Chick Corea & Christian McBride and has performed as an opening act for Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Aretha Franklin, George Benson, B.B. King and many others.
