Educational Programs at Your Location

Can't make it to Midland Center for the Arts? We can come to you with one of our on-site, hands-on, educational experiences for participants of all ages. Outreach programs must be arranged at least two weeks in advance. All programs are aligned with Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations. Summer Library Programs

Bring magic to your summer with Midland Center for the Arts' summer library programs! Select one of these programs that help discover science, wonder, and unity!

Programs run JUN 5 - AUG 21 and are $75 per workshop.

Become part of a beautiful rainbow as we learn about unity and community including a reading of the book Rainbows by Cheryl Green. Discover the wonder of colors using STEM to create a unity rainbow, a project that encourages teamwork and unity.

Learn about making friends through small and large acts of kindness as we read Sally the Stone and Friends by Sally Schnarr. Create your own kindness stone with a positive message and bring a smile to someone as you create new friendships.

Planetarium

Introduce your students to the wonders of space science with a portable planetarium visit to your school!

$175 for two groups, $75 additional groups, Can accommodate 25 students per group.

Students will journey through the night sky as they learn about the stars, constellations and phases of the moon. Discover the causes of moon phases as we model the earth, moon and sun systems. Grades K-5

Students will discover the motion of our solar system as they look at the movements of the earth that give us day and night and the seasons. Students will explore the effects of gravity and more. Grades 6-8

Students will explore the age, energy sources, and structure of our closest star, the Sun. They will also discover the Sun’s role in supporting life on Earth and more. Grades 9-12

Assembly Presentations

These workshops are offered at your location. Our assembly-style presentations offer students an interactive science experience with dynamic demonstrations! Presentations last approximately 45 minutes. $125 for 1 presentation, $75 for each additional presentation
Explore the science behind sound with interactive demonstrations. Investigate the role waves play in the creation of sound and experiment with loud vs. soft and high vs. low sounds. Grades PreK-2

What is a force? How do forces impact our world and the way it moves? We will explore the basics of forces as we demonstrate the power of magnets, gravity and more. We will break down Newton’s Laws as we send objects flying and perform science ‘tricks.’ Grades 2-8

Hands-On Art & Science Workshops

These engaging hands-on workshops can accomodate up to 30 students and are approximately 45 minutes in length. $125 for one classroom, $75 for additional groups.
Come discover weather with our friends Chris, Sam, and June as they take us along on a weather story. Students will learn about the different types of clouds, weather, and seasons while being entertained with a puppet show! Following our story time, students will create their own weather wheel just like they used in the story. Grades PreK-2

Students will learn about the engineering design process and the causes and effects of erosion as they work to devise a way to prevent beach erosion. Grades 1-5

Students will explore the properties of matter as they explore the relationships between energy and matter. Students will explore chemical and physical changes with hands-on experiments and engaging demonstrations. Grades 5-8

Students will explore rhythms from around the world as they learn how to play simple rhythm patterns as a group. Students will then create their own unique rhythm instruments. Grades PreK-2

Students will learn about the basics of sculpture and form as they transform paper into unique three-dimensional sculptures. Students will take inspiration from contemporary artists working with paper. Grades 1-5

Students will explore both literary and artistic aspects of creating their own mini graphic novel. Students will discover the basics of illustration and narrative writing as they enhance their comic using dialogue and character development. Grades 5-8

Explore the wonders of past toys! Students will travel back in time as they learn and play with historical folk toys. They will learn to compare and relate to modern day toys! Grades PreK-3
