Kate the Chemist Ignites Gender Norms in Science and Brings STEM Fun to Midland

Through Blowing Things Up, Dr. Kate Biberdorf Creates Memorable Impression of Science for People of All Ages!

Michigan native Dr. Kate Biberdorf explores – in sometimes explosive ways – the science that is all around us. A chemist, professor at The University of Texas and best-selling author, Dr. Kate’s exciting program entertains, teaches and fosters a positive, memorable impression of science. Join Dr. Kate when she performs as Kate the Chemist on Friday, February 24 as part of the MATRIX:Midland series at Midland Center for the Arts.

On stage, Dr. Kate creates thunderclouds and balls of fire — while diminishing the stigma around women in science and celebrating women in STEM. She has appeared on The Today Show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, NBC Nightly News, The Wendy Williams Show, The Rachael Ray Show, and Late Night with Stephen Colbert. Her unique approach to chemistry highlights the science that we encounter daily in an exciting and sense-awakening way that will leave audiences of all ages wanting to explore at-home STEM experiments.

Dr. Kate’s books include the Kate the Chemist fiction series; her nonfiction exploration of chemistry in our everyday lives, It’s Elemental; The Hidden Chemistry in Everything and The Big Book of Experiments among others. Her books feature small and large-scale experiments and a passion that Dr. Kate hopes to instill in all readers. Signed copies of her books will be available for sale at the event.

Midland Center is proud to partner with the Dow Women’s Inclusion Network and Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan to present two preshow activities before the Kate the Chemist performance. The Dow Women’s Inclusion Network will host a mini-STEM career exploration starting at 5:30 P.M. to meet STEM Superheroes in our community. Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan will have an interactive science activity highlighting the scientific method available pre-show for patrons in the Auditorium lobby.

Tickets for the February 24 performance are going fast and are available for $21.50 (plus processing fees) online at www.midlandcenter.org, by calling (989) 631-8250 or by visiting the box office located at 1801 W. St. Andrews Rd., Midland.
