Every Little Bit Adds Up

Meet Becky Krawczak

 

 

For Becky Krawczak, supporting Midland Center is personal because she gets to see what generosity makes possible every day.

 

When The Infinite welcomed thousands of students to Midland Center for the Arts, Rebecca “Becky” Krawczak had a unique view of the experience.

 

She was just starting out at the Center and her office was directly beneath the stairs that schools used throughout their field trip visits to THE INFINITE. She always knew when another school group had arrived.

 

“You could hear them running up the stairs, and you could hear the kids laughing,” Becky remembers. Stepping out of her office, she would catch pieces of conversations as students left the building, excitedly talking about what they had just experienced. For Becky, who works as Accountant II at the Center, those days offered a different perspective on work that often happens far from the public eye.

Long before joining the Center’s Finance team, Becky knew Midland Center as a patron. She remembers coming to see Alton Brown years ago, and still has the signed cookbook from his meet-and-greet. While working nearby, she regularly drove past the Center and watched to see what was coming next.

 

Nearly two years after joining the Center’s Finance team, she has found that some of the most rewarding parts of the job come from seeing where the numbers on a spreadsheet eventually lead.

 

Finance may not always be the first department patrons see, but Becky knows its work supports nearly everything that happens throughout the building. The team helps provide the financial information staff need to plan programs, pursue grants, make decisions and keep the organization moving forward.

 

And Becky rarely stays behind the scenes for long. You can often find her at a performance, in the lobby or experiencing a program alongside the patrons she helps serve.

 

Education remains one of the areas of the Center’s work she feels especially connected to. She sees the impact of camps, classes and experiences for young people, as well as programs like Relaxed Performances that create more welcoming ways for families to experience the arts together.

 

So, when Becky and her husband had the opportunity to direct their charitable giving somewhere meaningful to them - Midland Center felt like a natural choice. “I can choose to donate to any organization,” she said. “But here, I can visibly see the difference.”

 

For Becky, that difference might look like another box of crayons for a class. It could help provide supplies for a summer camp, support a young person’s tuition or help a family experience something together that they otherwise might not have been able to.

 

That connection is also why Becky has become an enthusiastic champion of staff giving.

 

“A little bit makes an impact if you add everybody together.”

 

It is an idea that extends beyond any one department, program or person. Every contribution joins with another to create something larger: more experiences, more opportunities and more ways for people across our community to participate.

For Becky, working at the Center means she gets an unusually close view of that collective impact. She sees the numbers. More importantly, she gets to see what they make possible.
