Educational Programs at Your Location
Bring the art and innovation of the museum right into your classroom or community space, or add a workshop to your matinee at the Center! We can come to you with one of our traveling, hands-on, educational experiences for participants of all ages. Outreach programs must be arranged at least four weeks in advance. All programs are aligned with Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations. For a listing of standards met by specific programs, please email schools@midlandcenter.org.

Traveling Beyond the Museum Classroom Workshops
Let us bring the learning to you! Get ready for your visit to the brand-new Hall of Ideas – or keep the magic of the museum going afterwards! Our museum celebrates the creativity that lives in each of us, no matter our individual interests or talents. Ignite that spark of creativity in your students through our pre- and post-visit workshops! Students will discover their own creative potential and complete hands-on projects that reinforce museum concepts.
One classroom of up to 30 students / $100. Each additional classroom / $50.
Classroom maximum 30 students. Additional travel fees apply for all traveling programs. Participant numbers must be confirmed at least 14 days before your program for staff to issue an invoice.
Creativity and You / Grades K-5
Discover your creative potential and what is possible with an innovative spirit! Learn about other creatives and how they use the resources around them to bring their ideas to life.

Ada Twist, Scientist & Friends / Grades K-4
Get your goggles on and get ready to do some science with Midland Center for the Arts! Learn about lab safety, basic chemistry and what to do when science goes wrong. Will your class be able to complete the formula without a catastrophic “explosion”?
A Center Educator will work with your students right in their very own classroom or virtually for your convenience. Workshops are booked on a first-come, first-scheduled basis.

Get your magnifying glass and detective hat! Investigate the mystery of a good book through engaging workshops and story times designed for young explorers. Whether you are an amateur codebreaker, a curious detective or someone seeking answers, Midland Center for the Arts is the perfect starting point! Let us support your guests while you relax and enjoy the excitement of all participants in your space. We can bring one of these hands-on learning experiences to your school, library or community space.

Codebreaking Kids / All Ages
Delve into the world of codes and spies! Figure out how codes are both made and broken, and determine if you can solve the cipher and crack the code.
Fingerprint Detective / Grades PreK-2
Learn all about the marks that we leave behind and the individuality found at your fingertips! Discover how detectives find suspects with only a single print and how you leave a mark on the world.
Investigation Station / Grades 3-5
A crime has taken place! Get a detective to the scene! Learn how to find and analyze clues like a real forensic scientist as participants solve the mystery of what happened at the library.
Counterfeit Canvas / Grades 6-12
The curator of the museum wants to purchase some art, but is it the real deal? Analyze art from modern artists and put your detective skills to work to determine if the artwork is a genuine masterpiece or a fake!
Traveling Program Policies & Additional Details
- Classroom workshops are $100 for one classroom and $50 for each additional classroom.
- Each workshop can accommodate up to 30 students.
- Workshops last approximately 45-60 minutes and include all materials needed for the activities.
- Requests must be submitted at least four weeks before the proposed workshop date.
- Final attendance counts are due at least 14 days before the workshop.
- Workshops held more than five miles from Midland Center for the Arts are subject to a round-trip mileage charge of 70 cents per mile.
- Workshop grants are available to qualifying schools based on available funding.
- Full payment is required before the workshop in a single transaction.
- Please allow up to three business days to receive confirmation of your request.
