- For instrumental students who are residents of Midland County.
- Applicant must be a high school student at the time of application.
- Applicants must submit a 5-10 minute video recording. Repertoire should be the caliber of a movement from a concerto or sonata showing both lyrical and technical abilities. If there is an accompaniment published for the chosen work, applicants are responsible for providing their own accompanist (computer assisted or generated accompaniment is not acceptable). Recording should be uploaded to Youtube and link provided with materials.
- Applicants must provide a list of musical references with application.
- A selection committee will review audition recordings and choose finalists who will perform a live audition before a panel of three judges, which will consist of the MSO conductor and two other musically qualified judges who do not have a participating student in the competition.
- Live accompaniment is expected for the final audition.
- Judges reserve the right not to award the scholarship if auditions are not up to standard.
- Total prize money available is $1200 (subject to availability from the endowment fund) and is to be applied for further musical study (i.e. summer camp, private lessons, etc.). There may be multiple winners, who would share funds as determined by the judges.
- Award winner(s) must have a designation for their scholarship by June 1, 2020. The Midland Symphony Orchestra office should be informed of the designation for the scholarship before June 1, 2020, or the funds will be returned to the Highhill Scholarship Endowment Fund.
- Award payment will be made directly to the institution/teacher of the student’s choice upon providing proof of enrollment.
- Award is not eligible for piano students.
